Medicine and Public Health students learn about Social Determinants of health in Globalized world

       VIIS hosted a 3 week pilot program for graduate medicine and public health students of University of Minnesota in the month of Dec – Jan.
        The course provided a global health team- based learning experience with field observation. The participants learned about health and health care delivery in the context of globalization in India through class room sessions. The course conveyed the significance of the social determinants of health in a globalized world. The field visits helped the students to understand the context of classroom session better. It also emphasized the leadership skills through a 2 day workshop on Leadership for Global citizenship. The course director was Dr. R. Balasubramaniam, Founder and president of Swami Vivekananda Youth movement who has embarked his journey in the development sector by living and working for several years among remote forest based tribal communities in the southern Indian district of Mysuru.
