Sudarshan S ,1 July 2020
The “COVID Crisis” bears ample testimony to the adage “ Every adversity opens up an opportunity”. This is aptly reflected by the spirit of the foursome from the University of Iowa who have been pursuing their virtual Internship at SVYM from 25th May 2020. Ashley Morrow, Leena Taha, Sarah Luke and Lesley Mcnaughton have immersed themselves in four projects of SVYM and GRAAM being guided by their members of the faculty Ms Jeanine Abrons and Ms Carly Nichols.
The mentors at the Reproductive Child health Program, Targeted intervention program for the migrants, Palliative Care program of SVYM and the Education program (Sugamya Shiksha) of GRAAM are mentoring the students to have a virtual online internship experience. Webinars on topics such as Introduction to India and its heritage, Health care in India, Disability, Gender & health, Palliative care, Education perspectives in India, Social determinants of Health, Use of Ayurveda in treatment of NCDs, Integrated Medicine- Practice & Approach and Heritage sites in and around Mysuru by the faculty at SVYM has added significant value to the contextual understanding of the students. The Internship program concludes in the second week of July 2020 with the presentations from the students.
